BE PART OF THE CONNECTION

In your role as Managing Editor of News Standards, you will collaborate directly with our news leaders and multimedia journalists across the country to review, edit, and approve the most complicated stories before they air on TV or are published onto digital platforms. As a member of the News Standards Committee, you will help draft guidance on language and style, as well as revise and update our News Standards Guidelines. You will have the opportunity to work on both big picture initiatives at the core of our mission and breaking news on deadline. You will have the chance to train our newest employees, as well as work with the most senior leaders.

  • Helps lead all efforts to maintain and promote rigorous standards of ethical journalism, including fairness, integrity and unbiased coverage.
  • Provides leadership and editorial strategy to the teams responsible for producing content.
  • Responsible for the look, feel, and style of Spectrum Networks’ storytelling as well as the editorial strategy.
  • Provides support to our writers, editors and leaders in making tough journalistic calls in fast-moving news cycles.


WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPECTRUM NEWS

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: News or editing - 8+ years, Management - 5+ years
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Management, or related field, comparable television management work experience
  • Technical Skills: Programming knowledge and an understanding of the evolving digital media landscape
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to cultivate relationships and motivate co-workers, highly organized, analytical thinking, ability to work on deadline
  • Travel Ability: Open to travel for newsroom Standards trainings
  • Schedule: Ability to work different shifts and be flexible with schedule changes

Preferred Qualifications

  • May be required to lift up to five pounds

Working Conditions

  • Works primarily inside a climate-controlled environment throughout the year but might be assigned field duties on occasion
  • Works in an open newsroom setting with a semi-noisy environment

The base pay for this position generally is between $107,900.00 and $191,100.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
