We are excited to recognize Chris, a Field Technician based in Central Texas, as our Employee Spotlight. Chris took some time to tell us about how his experience in the military led him to join Spectrum, and how he continues to find meaningful, rewarding work in civilian life.
Tell us a little about what you do. I’m a Field Technician IV, meaning I’m responsible for installing new services for customers and troubleshooting their existing services. I’ve been with Spectrum for two and a half years, and in this role for almost a year.
What brought you to Spectrum? When I got out of the army I was looking for a career change during my transition back to civilian life for myself and my family. Spectrum made that transition very easy with their great benefits and work schedule. Being in the military helped prepare me for this kind of work, too. It helped me get used to adjusting to changing work conditions and experiences, and also helped me develop as a troubleshooter. In the military my job was to diagnose and resolve issues for helicopters.
You’re also participating in the Field Operations National Registered Apprenticeship Program? Yes! The Apprenticeship program has been great for my family and me. It gives an extra line of income, which helps when my wife is busy taking care of our 4 children. My family is all the motivation I need to do my best at Spectrum. I want to be able to provide for them and also show them that hard work pays off.
Can you tell us a little about what it’s like working at Spectrum? The work environment at Spectrum is great. I get to interact with different people on a daily basis and see different parts of central Texas. My colleagues are also great. We work together very well and help each other when needed. We also get together outside of work and have developed a brotherhood.
How would you say you’re making a difference here? The best part about working for the company is the interaction with our customers. It's great to meet new people and hear their stories. We are always expanding and coming out with new products that help people communicate with each other, and providing fast, reliable internet service for our customers who work from home.
My favorite story about helping someone is when I had an elderly customer who had no idea why her phone wasn't working, and she needed that phone for her Life Alert. I discovered some bad wiring that was causing all the problems. When I replaced all of that wiring and got her phone working again she gave me a big hug and told me that I was an angel.
Thank you for sharing that story with us, Chris! We are so proud of the work our dedicated Field Technicians do to keep our customers happy and connected. Click here to find Field Technician opportunities near you!
